In news papers, television and in government schemes, you daily hear or read about smart city, digital city, smart devices, automation etc. You also have read about Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science and Cyber security. It makes us curious about how it is happening and what are these technologies? These are the present and future of current technological world. Remarkably, they are changing the day to day life of individuals as well as business. There are so many amazing ways artificial intelligence, machine learning and IOTs are used behind the scenes to impact our everyday lives and inform business decisions and optimize operations for some of the world’s leading companies.
First we talk about Internet of Things (IoT). It is an ecosystem of connected physical objects that are accessible through the internet. Here the thing could be a person with any monitoring device attached or an automobile with built-in-sensors. This connectivity is going beyond laptops and smartphones, it’s going towards connected cars, smart homes, connected wearable accessories, smart cities and connected healthcare, smart agriculture. Here the thing collects the data and able transfer data over a network without manual assistance or intervention. When devices/objects can represent themselves digitally, they can be controlled from anywhere. They can interact with connected devices or the external environment, which in turn affects the decisions taken.
Now we talk about Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is the technology enabling machines to learn from experience and perform human-like tasks. Artificial Intelligence can help organizations gain meaningful insights from big data obtained from various sources like IoT devices, applications or websites. Artificial intelligence is a functional solution to managing multiple connected IoT elements. IoT and AI help companies improve performance through analytics and Security to deliver better results. Businesses in the utilities, oil & gas, insurance, manufacturing, transportation, infrastructure and retail sectors can use them to improve the use of their resources, safety, reliability, making more informed decisions. Deep Mind, Hello Barbie, Chef Watson, Netflix, Infervision, Burberry, BBC project, Talking with Machines are the names which are impacting every part of our lives. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram are using Big data, Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning in order to find out users preferences, target advertising, fight cyberbullying and delete offensive comments etc.
Connecting lots of devices to Internet has disadvantage as all of those things potentially have vulnerability. This becomes really difficult to manage the environment where an attack surface is high. Here security comes into picture. We require security technologies to safeguarding connected devices and networks in the internet of things. Cyber security, IOT Security etc are very much required for business to secure their data and devices from unauthorized users.
